About the Author :
Carolyn Orange is Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She teaches Psychological Basis of Learning, Learning and Development of the School Age Child, Human Growth and Development, and Psychology of Human Motivation. She has a PhD and Master of Arts degree in Educational Psycho logy from Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harris Stowe State College. She began her teaching career in the St. Louis Public Schools where she taught for a number of years. Her work as an educator has spanned about 25 years. That period includes some time that she worked for two corporations. She has worked as a researcher and educator in a variety of educational settings: elementary, secondary, English as a Second Language (ESL), Montessori, special education, adult education, art, and higher education. She has produced a video on self-regulation and has developed a Self-Regulation Inventory. She has published numerous articles in journals such as the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, The Journal of Experimental Education, The Roeper Review, Journal of Communi-cations and Minority Issues, The Journal of Black Studies, The NASSP: Curriculum Report, and The High School Journal. In 2001, she was appointed to the review board of the Journal of Communications and Minority Issues. She is on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scout Council of San Antonio. She was included in Who's Who in the World for 2005; Who's Who Among American Teachers for 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003; Who's Who in America 2001, 2002, and 2003/2004. Her current research interests are envirosocial factors that affect student achievement. It has been reviewed in India and translated into Thai, Chinese, and Slovenian. She was inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame in 2004.
Lisa Maria Burke, M. Ed., is a teacher, trainer, and author. She has taught in both regular education and inclusion settings as well as teaching reading resource, college, and continuing education courses. Lisa also has worked as an instructional resource teacher, supporting teachers as a curriculum and instruction specialist. Lisa's workshops and seminars for teachers focus on effective teaching, especially planning and instructional strategies. Her successful publications 7 Steps to Stress Free Teaching: A Stress Prevention Planning Guide for Teachers and 7 Steps to Stress Free Teaching Plan Book (Edu-cators' Lighthouse, 1999) were precursors of The Teacher's Ultimate Planning Guide. She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Reading Association, and the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. Neal A. Glasgow′s experience includes serving as a secondary school science and art teacher both in California and New York, as a university biotechnology teaching laboratory director and laboratory technician, and as an educational consultant and frequent speaker on many educational topics. Renee Rosenblum-Lowden has taught children and adolescents for more than 25 years in the New York City school system. Currently, she is sharing her love for teaching by presenting seminars and keynote speeches to new and veteran teachers throughout the country, as well as student teachers at various universities. She uses a sense of humor while arming them with great strategies for making classrooms safe and fun--while always being in control. She has devel-oped a curriculum called Prejudice Awareness, using consciousness-raising techniques and incorporating her training in conflict resolu-tion. She was selected by the NYC Board of Education to train teach-ers in this subject.
Ms. Rosenblum-Lowden has conducted workshops for improving com-munication with children and adolescents, using non-confrontational strategies for parents and teachers. Having taught family living and sex education classes, she has unique insights into the needs of her stu-dents. Ms. Rosenblum-Lowden did her undergraduate work at Long Island University and studied at The New School for Social Research and New York University. She continues to be a social activist. She is a transplanted New Yorker who is now living in Colum-bia, Maryland, with her husband Michael and their dog, Susie B. Anthony.
Rebecca Lynn Wilke, Ed.D., is Adjunct Professor of Education at the University of San Diego and also affiliated with the Poway Beginning Teacher Support and Assistance (BTSA) program in southern California. Rebecca and her husband Steve, a psychologist, offer training in leadership, education, and development through their company LEADon.biz, which serves schools, corporations, and community organizations.
