About the Book

From the author: When Citadel Values went to press, we began looking for an educational tool to capture the lessons and fortify our students in the greater world beyond the Lesesne Gate. Also, answering prompting calls for a longer book with more essays of comfort and wisdom, we created a publication that has accomplished more than we sought. This book is the result. It reflects my thinking and writing during tumultuous economic times and of great stress on our body politic. Stress is often the time of greatest growth. I am hopeful, as we traverse these "bumps in the road," that our American Ark will come out the better. What I can assure you is that The Citadel will continue on its path of producing men and women of distinction and character to lead the next generation.

About the Author :
Robert E. Freer, Jr. is the BB&T visiting professor in ethics and free enterprise leadership for the School of Business at The Citadel. A lawyer by training, Freer has extensive working experience as a partner of several private law firms, assistant to the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, and as vice president for Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Review :
This book is an inspiring reflection on the ideals upon which our nation was founded and charts the course toward a richer, more democratic society. Robin Freer gives voice to the notion of principled leadership, which is at the heart of a Citadel education and essential for all citizens to embrace. Citadel Values II encapsulates timeless truths that make America great. The Citadel proves an essential training ground where cadets receive more than education, but experience that propels them as leaders in society. Professor Freer reminds us of the vision and values our country so desperately needs. Robin Freer has exquisitely captured what drives most Citadel graduates to strive for excellence in every endeavor. Perhaps one of the most difficult emotions to portray in a book is exactly what inspires us to accomplish our life goals and from whom did we learn our valuable lessons. Robin has captured that spirit in this well-written book. All Citadel alumni salute him.
