About the Book

As she fearfully begins learning to ride and manage the horses she never wanted her family to own, Sophie Groves also begins to acquire friends on the Maine island she calls home.

About the Author :
Sarah P. Gibson grew up on an island in Maine. In addition to enduring the agonies of owning a motley trio of horses and trying to make friends, Ms. Gibson also feared sailing tippy boats and skiing down icy mountains. Her love of reading and hatred of math led her to become a librarian, and being stuck on a small island made her yearn to travel. After visiting twenty countries and living in six, she is now back on the island, where she lives with her husband and two children. Learn more about her at www.SarahPGibson.com. Glin Dibley loves to surf when he’s not busy drawing and painting children’s books for all ages. His fun, quirky style can be seen in such novels as The Stupendous Dodgeball Fiasco by Janice Repka and picture books, such as Tub-boo-boo by Margie Palatini and Kid Tea by Elizabeth Ficocelli. He lives in Huntington Beach, California, with his wife and two daughters.

Review :
“The horses’ personalities shine through, and they become the real supporting cast. Sophie narrates her adventures with self-deprecating humor and genuine emotion as she faces her fears, confronts a bully, and learns the importance of self-reliance, and her well-developed character makes this short and sweet tale memorable.” —School Library Journal “With its undemanding narrative style and Dibbley’s occasional cartoon vignettes, this will entertain die-hard horse fans…” —Kirkus Reviews “Gibson writes vividly, with wry, self-effacing humor, about the Ballards’ small island community in Maine filled with quirky characters, including Sophie’s larger-than-life relatives. Dibley’s cartoonlike illustrations extend the humor and action, and the clever chapter titles will help move readers through the book.” —Booklist
