About the Book

This book follows a librarian through the work day, and describes the occupation and what the job requires.

Review :
This slender volume introduces the youngest school-aged reader to the workday of a familiar person, the local librarian. A clever format utilizes simple questions and answers about what goes on in a library and well-organized photos of a librarian at work on an hour-by-hour basis, beginning before the library opens and ending as she cleans her desk and turns off her computer in the evening. "Fun Facts" are interspersed throughout the text, and a final photo shows typical library equipment clearly labeled. A useful glossary, short age-appropriate bibliography and a suggestion for a website that links youngsters to further facts about library work are all included, as well as a short index. A clear, simple exposition of a complex and interesting career, this attractive book is a valuable research tool for young readers.-- "Children's Literature Comprehensive Database" A Day in the Life of a Librarian uses large spreads, each with a clock, to show what happens through a librarian's day. You could do the same using PowerPoint to show children (and teachers) all the things you do in your job. Future media specialists sit in your classes and you might plant the first thought about a career possibility. More likely, you will help viewers appreciate the breadth of your job.-- "Library Sparks" Well-balanced views of familiar professions. Each spread includes a clock with the time of day, full-color photos, and one or two paragraphs of large-print text that explain what the job involves. Everyone except the librarian takes a lunch break. Hmmmm. People of various races are illustrated, and the nurse is a man. The question/answers chapter format works well, and each book includes an "Equipment Photo Diagram," with parts of the workspace labeled.-- "School Library Journal"
