About the Book

In this expanded prequel to THE WHEEL OF TIME saga, Robert Jordan introduces the characters of Moiraine Damodred, a young Accepted soon to be raised to Aes Sedai, and Lan Mandragoran, a young soldier, whose paths are inextricably bound by a shared destiny. For three days battle rages around the great city of Tar Valon, until, on the slopes of Dragonmount, the immense mountain that looms over the city, the future is foretold: a newborn child is prophesied to change the world. But that child is in grave danger, and Moraine and Lan must find him before the forces of the Shadow have a chance to kill him. Their mission is fraught with complications and obstacles, and their lives threatened by those vying for power.

About the Author :
Robert Jordan (1948-2007) wrote one of the most beloved and bestselling series in the history of fantasy, The Wheel of Time, which sold over 14 million copies in North America and many more abroad. He taught himself to read when he was four and was tackling Mark Twain and Jules Verne by five. After graduating from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, with a degree in physics, he served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star with "V," and two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry. Jordan died from complications of a rare blood disease. He passed away in his birthplace of Charleston, South Carolina, where he lived with his wife, Harriet. Kate Reading is the recipient of three AudioFile Earphones Awards, and has narrated everything from Patricia Cornwell to George Eliot. Her favorite BOT recordings include Like Water for Chocolate, Middlemarch, and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Times series, which she narrated with her husband, Michael Kramer. Michael Kramer is an actor, director, and narrator. He has recorded more than 100 audiobooks, as well as titles for the Library of Congress Talking Books program. Among the recognition he has garnered for his narration are AudioFile magazine's Earphones Award and the Torgi Award. Mr. Kramer lives in Washington, DC, where he is active in the area's theater scene, and has appeared in productions at the Shakespeare Theatre, the Kennedy Center, and Theater J.

Review :
"Jordan has come to dominate the world that Tolkien began to reveal." --"The New York Times" on "The Wheel of Time" "Has all the breadth and depth that have made this fantasy author one of the acknowledged greats of the genre."--"Publishers Weekly" on "Crossroads of Twilight" "Jordan has not merely put old wine in new bottles: He has clothed old bones with new flesh." --"Chicago Sun-Times" on "The Eye of the World" "Reading and Kramer are perfect vocal counterparts to the main characters. Reading invites readers into the politics and mystery of the world of Aes Sedai. She gives Moiraine's quirks full attention and makes the most minor of characters distinct. Kramer sounds as battle-worm as Lan Mandragoran is described to be. Effective at making Lan no-nonsense, weary, and observant, Kramer adds further life to the character beyond the military prowess. Fans will not be disappointed..." --KLIATT "As there is more of a female presence in the story, Kate Readin “Jordan has come to dominate the world that Tolkien began to reveal.” —"The New York Times" on "The Wheel of Time" “Has all the breadth and depth that have made this fantasy author one of the acknowledged greats of the genre.”—"Publishers Weekly" on "Crossroads of Twilight" “Jordan has not merely put old wine in new bottles: He has clothed old bones with new flesh.” —"Chicago Sun-Times" on "The Eye of the World" "Reading and Kramer are perfect vocal counterparts to the main characters. Michael Kramer's bare-bones delivery is perfect for the soldier who has lost his belief in a better world until he is swept up in adventure. Both narrators handle complex roles with feeling and confidence, never losing the excitement and tension of the fast-moving story. The performers breathe emotion into their characters with an earnestness that holds listeners close and leaves them wanting more."--Audio File
