About the Book

If you run a shop, you can never be sure when trouble is going to walk in the door. Dido Hoare, antiquarian bookseller, is pleased to welcome Gabriel Steen when he returns after a long absence, for Steen is a book scout with some nice Victoriana to sell. But he receives a disturbing call on his mobile phone and suddenly offers her a share in one last item: a mediaeval illustrated manuscript of unknown origin but - maybe - great value. Against her better judgement Dido pays him in cash - and Gabriel goes off to a violent death. What is this mysterious object which Dido now controls, and is it the reason for the murder? Why are police of three different British forces, not to mention the Netherlands and the USA, so interested in Steen's little book? Dido herself is suspected by some of having her fingers in a dirty conspiracy stretching back over many years and involving very rich and unscrupulous people. Untangling this mess requires the help of her father and friends. Oh - and some good luck.

Review :
"Fans of John Dunning's more hard-boiled series starring antiquarian Cliff Janeway may like this less-cozy-than-usual Dido Hoare adventure" Booklist on Three Monkeys "Carefully plotted, with plenty of tense moments, a warmly likeable heroine, a fresh unfancy narrative style, and for lovers of antiquities, some extra cachet" Kirkus Reviews on Ghost Walk"
