About the Book

This work is, to paraphrase an old cliche, a book of two halves. The first sixteen pieces or so are general thoughts on paper depending on the mood of the day coupled with the ongoing illness of my late wife, which was primary progressive multiple sclerosis. As her main carer, and still holding down a job, things gradually worsened and, as other outdoor pursuits, hobbies and companions disappeared, evening time with my word processor was good therapy. The second half came about following redundancy, when my wife's health was going downhill so fast it was frightening. More help was given by various ladies from an agency, plus one special guardian angel, which stopped me going mad. Out of this grew a fantasy of works which were based on me courting my wife all over again. This created, in mainly blank verses, a pseudo affair with the love of my life, who was unable to respond herself, but this made life a little easier to bare.

About the Author :
Dave Goodwin was born in North East London in 1937 and had little in the way of schooling until he was eight years old, as the schools in his area were bombed. Despite this he became a prolific reader and loved words. At eleven he qualified for Holloway Grammar School, and went on to gain two O-levels - English and French, but nothing else. He undertook his two years' National Service in the rifle brigade at TA Unit Orderly Room in London and was demobbed on 22nd May 1958. Dave married his late wife on 24th May 1958 and experienced many years of marital bliss, with the whole family (his dear wife, son and daughter) moving to Basingstoke in 1974. After his wife became ill, the next thirty-one years were devoted to her as her carer, until he very sadly loses her. He then moved to Devon to live with his daughter and her family.
