About the Book

Are managers born or are they taught? John E. Baker, Jr. tackles this question and gives a real life, hands on approach to management questions in his debut of A Guide for New Managers Young and Old. What they don't teach you in business school is the dynamic of being human. John has created a tool for all managers to gauge their humanistic side in their day to day dealings with their support staff. In this book John has found the perfect balance between story telling and reference. Laid out in a simple, easy to read format and using case studies to drive his research home. In this book you will find a refreshing, modern approach to management.

About the Author :
John E. Baker Jr. is the VP of Manufacturing at E. C.Styberg Engineering Company in Racine Wisconsin. The company produces metal components that are used in medium and heavy duty products, such as emergency vehicles, on and off highway trucks, military vehicles, aerospace applications, including the C130 Hercules cargo plane and police helicopters, fork trucks, mining, stern drive boats and more. John has held various positions in management over the last 30 years. He started as a front line supervisor working through several different production and quality departments. Then in 1986 John started his manager's career again working through several different departments including manufacturing, quality assurance and engineering. In 2012, he was promoted to VP of Manufacturing and continues to hold that position presently. While maintaining these different management positions John obtained his BS in Engineering and minor in Economics in 1996 from the University of Wisconsin Parkside. He then took a break from schooling to be with his family but in 2009 he hit the books again and in 2012 graduated from Cardinal Stritch University with his MBA. During the years that he was working towards his MBA, classmates and Instructors commented numerous times about the stories, histories and events in management that John had gone through that some would never had thought would happen. Throughout his MBA schooling John started to compile some of these events that he had gone through which became the basis of his literary work. John's was raised by a single mother in the 1960's, he lived in poverty, so he tends to look at things differently than others and management was no different. John had a curiosity of what makes a good manager, so during his studies he focused on that point, which it became clear to him that there was no clear answer to what makes a good manager, so he felt he needed to continue his research and still does today. His goal is to teach college level management classes part time, so he can express his knowledge but also learn from feedback from new students. John lives in Racine, Wisconsin with his wife Mary. They are very family orientated, and have three grown children, Carly, Jessica, and John they enjoy spending time with their granddaughters Jolie and Lilie.
