About the Book

When Dylan wakes up after her train has crashed, she thinks she has survived unscathed. But she couldn't be more mistaken: the bleak landscape around her isn't Scotland, it's a wasteland – a terrain somehow shaped by her own feelings and fears, a border to whatever awaits her in the afterlife. And the stranger sitting by the train track isn't an ordinary teenage boy. Tristan is a Ferryman, tasked with guiding Dylan's soul safely across the treacherous landscape, a journey he has made a thousand times before. Only this time, something's different. The crossing, as ever, is perilous, with ravenous wraiths hounding the two at each day's end, hungry for Dylan's soul. But as Dylan focuses her strength on survival, with Tristan as protector, challenger and confidant, she begins to wonder where she is truly meant to be – and what she must risk to get there.

About the Author :
Claire McFall is a former English teacher from Scotland who now lives in sunny (sunny) Colorado with her family. Her first book, Ferryman, is a love story which retells the ancient Greek myth of Charon, the ferryman of Hades who transported souls to the Underworld. The novel won the 2013 Scottish Children's Book Award and was shortlisted for the Grampian Children's Book Awards, longlisted for the Branford Boase Award and the UKLA (UK Literary Association) Book Awards, as well as being nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Trespassers and Outcasts, released in July 2017 and March 2019, complete the trilogy. The Ferryman series has now been translated into more than 15 languages, sold in excess of three million copies and the film rights have been bought by Legendary Entertainment. Her second novel, Bombmaker, is a YA dystopian thriller in which the main character Lizzie struggles to survive in a London dominated by gangs and plagued by terrorism. It was selected as one of the Telegraph's YA Books of 2014. Black Cairn Point, Claire's third novel, is a paranormal thriller about a camping trip gone wrong. When all of her friends suffer the wrath of a mysterious entity, only Heather is left to take the blame! Black Cairn Point won the inaugural Scottish Teenage Book Prize in 2016 and was released under the title The Last Witness in the US with SourceBooks Fire in 2020. Chloe Pirrie is a Scottish actress. She has played main roles in the 2014 miniseries The Game, the 2012 film Shell and the 2015 television film An Inspector Calls. She has also appeared in the miniseries War & Peace, the films Youth and Blood Cells and an episode of Black Mirror. In 2015 she also co-starred in the Academy Award winner for Best Live Action Short Film, Stutterer. In 2019, she appeared as prosecutor Ella Mackie in BBC's thriller miniseries The Victim.

Review :
'Adding touches of mystery and horror as she goes, McFall reimagines Charon of Greek mythology in this gentle, engrossing love story.' 'Is it possible for the dead to love another? Is it possible for the ferryman to love someone? Is it possible for the dead to return to this world? McFall answers all of these questions in thoughtful, satisfying ways for the reader ...' 'An escapist romance of limitless love across boundaries of life and death.' 'An otherworldly romance.'
