About the Book

A sweeping debut inspired by ancient Chinese mythology, Reigning Fire is perfect for readers who loved the emotional weight of The Poppy War, the court politics of The Goblin Emperor, or the dreamlike defiance of She Who Became the Sun. In a realm where power is sealed through smoke and blood, Yan Xun was born to inherit a crown-or be destroyed by it. When her phoenix Emberkin arrives far too early, and in a form the world has no place for, Xun becomes a danger to the very empire she was meant to serve. As she uncovers long-buried truths and navigates a court built on silence, loyalty, and control, her existence alone threatens to unravel everything. Set in an ancient Chinese-inspired empire of myth and ash, Reigning Fire is a lyrical fantasy about forbidden power, political unrest, and the ghosts we carry. Through richly layered worldbuilding and emotional depth, this debut novel explores the complexities of trauma, neurodivergence, and what it means to survive when your truth has no place in the world. Perfect for readers who love introspective characters, slow-burn rebellion, and myth-infused storytelling, Reigning Fire blends court intrigue with emotional intensity in a story about legacy, selfhood, and the quiet power of choosing your own name. **Recommended for mature readers (18+) due to dark themes, including trauma, abuse, coercive control and violence. Reader discretion advised.

About the Author :
Jasmine K. Y. Loo is a Malaysian-Chinese Australian psychologist, writer, and passionate advocate for neurodivergent voices. Her work explores the emotional depths of identity, trauma, and survival-often through the lens of those who feel too much, speak too little, or carry the weight of truths that others cannot see.Her debut non-fiction book, Nurturing Neurodivergence: The Late-Identified Adults' Guide to Building Healthy Relationships with Self and Others, established her as a bold and compassionate voice within both clinical and neurodivergent communities. Jasmine's work is deeply informed by her lived experience as a late-identified neurodivergent person navigating life and grief in a world that often feels designed to silence complexity.Reigning Fire, her debut novel, is a fantasy rooted in emotional truth-woven with threads of cultural heritage, unspoken grief, and forbidden resilience. Set in a world inspired by ancient Chinese mythos, it follows the journey of a young woman cast aside by the empire she was born to serve, who must make peace with a power she never asked for and a legacy she no longer believes in.Jasmine holds postgraduate qualifications in psychology and teaching. She works clinically with neurodivergent adults. She is the co-founder of the Neuroaffirming Professionals Alliance Australia (NAPAA), where she develops resources for professionals and the neurodivergent community alike. Outside of clinical work, she enjoys wood-burning art, crafting fantasy maps, and emotionally recovering from the novels she writes. She splits her time between her private practice, creative projects, and extended contemplations on whether she has too many tabs open-both literally and metaphorically.

Review :
"A book that I couldn't put down. Clever mix of psychology, neurodivergence and fantasy and the blurred concepts in between." "The world-building is intricate and atmospheric, and the plot is packed with tension and mystery. There's plenty here for fans of fantasy and character-driver stories to enjoy. I'm already looking forward to diving into Book 2 and seeing where Loo takes us next." "This book broke and healed me in equal measure." "Using her experience working with the human psyche, Jasmine Loo has weaved together this beautiful story, showing an understanding of humans in their entirety, both in their beauty and their tragedy."
