Review :
Gillian Stapleton makes you feel anything is possible. Her stories of competing and of the friendships that she's made through her running will have you pulling on your fitness gear and heading for the door. What comes through though in Running in Circles is the encouragement to accept that everyone starts from somewhere and while the hurdles ahead might sometimes seem insurmountable, in the end, just starting the journey can sometimes be all it takes. - Lisa Millar, ABC Journalist. Runners are good people. In all my years of running, I have come to the realisation that "ratbags" don't run. Running is hard, but it can also be the most rewarding and fulfilling thing you can do. Nothing else is as simple but also as challenging as running. This beautiful life story and journey by Gillian Stapleton highlights one runner's struggles and triumphs, both in running and in life and connects us with her running family. As runners, we are all connected. We understand the disappointment of injury and illness, the challenges of the marathon (or your first 5k), the thrills and joys of a Personal Best and the friendships forged through shared sweat and toil. Running is one of the most powerful things anyone can do. It requires virtually no equipment; you can do it alone or with your best friends and you can do it anywhere across the globe. It is not only beneficial for our physical health but a powerful medicine for our mental health, well-being and self-esteem. I see this every day through the work I do with my not-for-profit charity, The Indigenous Marathon Foundation and the powerful and positive transformation that our First Nations runners go through, especially when they run their first marathon is extraordinary. Congratulations, Gillian, on the insight, you have provided and shared with your readers and I know this book will inspire others also to pull on the Asics, get off the couch and grow as individuals, friends and family. We may run in circles ending up back where we started, but when we get back, we are not the same person we were. If you want to be inspired, hang out with runners. - Rob de Castella AO MBE Uplifting, engaging, motivating. A refreshingly open and wonderfully written book and Gillian's warmth and relatability had me "lacing up my runners" and "running with her" from the very first chapter. And what plays out among the pages, from the early days of Gillian's running to her training, through all the incredible marathons and life in between is a deeply personal journey of resilience, friendship, family love and support, resourcefulness and a rediscovery of purpose in life. There are so many messages to take away from this book. But what I particularly love is that it confirms this quiet truth - that the positive impact of running goes far beyond simply running itself. It is life-changing. Life-affirming. Empowering. I know this beautiful book will inspire you too. - Heather Hawkins, Adventurer
