About the Book

Stringfest is a collection of popular melodies imaginatively arranged for string groups. The music has been arranged with extra flexibility to cater for a variety of abilities and situations, with each piece including duet parts (grades 2–3) that can be used independently, as well as very simple parts for the absolute beginner and optional piano accompaniments. The volume includes all time world-favourites including Ode to Joy, Spring from 'The Four Seasons' and Largo from 'The New World Symphony'. The Classic Stringfest pack format is uniquely helpful for the teacher and includes a piano score and an enhanced-CD of printable string parts for each instrument as PDF files so you can print out exactly what you need. The CD also features piano accompaniment backing tracks for extra help with practice and performance. Also available in this format is Folk Stringfest.

Table of Contents:
Gavotte ou la Musette (Bach); Asturias (Albeniz); Norwegian Dance No.3 (Grieg); William Tell (Rossini); Habanera (Bizet); Raindrop Prelude (Chopin); Ode to Joy (Beethoven); Largo from New World Symphony (Dvorak); Spring from the Four Seasons (Vivaldi); Minuet (Mozart).

Review :
The ten pieces are drawn from staples of the classical repertoire, reduced to a few phrases (just two in the case of the Raindrop prelude). There are some lovely ideas, such as getting beginners to tap the rhythm of the Habanera on their instruments…..'fest' publications are good for situations in which players with differing levels of experience come together and need to produce performances of contrasting works in a short space of time. Music Teacher Magazine, January 2008 The music is neatly produced and well laid out. As usual with Mary Cohen’s work, specific string techniques are included – pizzicato and different styles of bowing…..The choice of music is varied and interesting. Classic Stringfest contains many pieces that pupils should know, such as Largo from the New World Symphony, Grieg’s Norwegian Dance and an excerpt from the William Tell Overture. Ensemble Magazine, January 2008
