About the Book

This text effectively blends coverage of the theoretical basis of systems analysis and design with practical instruction on how to design a system. Section One reviews business data processing concepts, the systems life cycle, organizational issues and common business functions affected by systems analysis and design. Section Two explains the systems life cycle in depth, covering both theory and practice. The phases of the cycle are emphasized by three cases which are developed throughout the chapters of this section: an illustrated example of a payroll case; an illustrated accounts payable case; and a "hands-on" receivables case for students to develop themselves. Section Three addresses topics relevant to the execution of the systems life cycle, including human relations skills, data communications and microcomputers and office automation. Structured design techniques are also emphasized with Warnier-Orr, Yourdon and a modified version of VTOC's included for illustration. This book should be of interest to degree and diploma students on systems analysis and information systems design courses.

Table of Contents:
Section One: Background for study of systems analysis and design. Systems analysis and design: tools for today and tomorrow. Introduction to the systems life cycle. Data processing role and organization structure. Basic business systems. Section Two: The systems life cycle. The feasibility study phase. The analysis phase. The definition phase. Overview of the design process. Design of system outputs. Design of system inputs. Permanent storage devices and device processing concepts. Logical and physical file design.
