About the Book

From the author of The Final Season and The Road to Cooperstown, a collection of essays, articles, and letters celebrating the great moments and personalities of Detroit's rich baseball history The story of the Tigers, like that of Detroit itself, is one of resilience and patience. It's also a personal one: Detroit Tigers baseball has flowed through generations of families. The articles in this book capture those stories and the Tigers' spirit, tracing the franchise from 1902 up through the arrival of "Pudge" Rodriguez in 2004. With contributions from some of the greatest sports writers and athletes, as well as other local journalists and loyal fans, this entertaining volume charts the highs and lows of an extraordinary team.

About the Author :
Tom Stanton has been a journalist for nearly thirty years—and a Detroit Tigers fan for many more. His memoir of Tiger Stadium, The Final Season, is the only book to have won both the Casey and Elysian Fields Quarterly Awards, which are given to the best baseball book of the year. He is also the author of The Road to Cooperstown: A Father, Two Sons, and the Journey of a Lifetime and Hank Aaron and the Home Run That Changed America.

Review :
“In The Detroit Tigers Reader, the players we grew up with, and the pivotal moments in Tigers history that we’ve lived, are captured by some of the best writers around. A must-have for any Tigers fan.” —Dan Dickerson, Tigers broadcaster
