About the Book

This text offers an approach to understanding the principal patterns and mechanisms of global climate change. Its aim is to increase understanding of climatic mechanisms based on reality rather than conformity, and on direct observation rather than ideas received from others. The author tests his theories using real facts and stressing the value of direct observation from satellite imaging and the study of maps detailing synoptic movements to aid interpretation. Physical and geographical influences on the climate, general circulation in the troposphere and meteorological changes are detailed. The analysis includes a discussion of extremes in the polar regions and tropical latitudes as a backdrop to understanding how the climate works and this is essential to understanding current climate changes.

Table of Contents:
Introduction: perception of weather and climate, and the approach of this book. Part 1 General circulation in the troposphere: radiation; circulation in the lower layers of the troposphere - circulation in high and mid-latitudes , moving polar highs (MPH); anticyclonic agglutination; tropical circulation; general circulation. Part 2 Dynamics of the weather - perturbations: pluviogenesis; dynamics of weather in polar and temperate regions - MPH; MPH at tropical margins; pulsations in the trades and monsoons; the meteorological Equator; tropical cyclones. Part 3 Dynamics of climate - climatic evolution: causes of climatic variations - orbital parameters of radiation; volcanism and climate; the antropic greenhouse effect; palaeoclimatic variations and general modes of circulation - palaeoenvironments in Africa; variations in isolation and general circulation modes; paleocirculation over Africa; recent climatic evolution - dynamics of the great Sahelian drought; climatic evolution in the Atlantic/northern Europe/Mediterranean area; dynamics of the Pacific area, El Nino; expansion of the meterological northern hemisphere.
