About the Book

Electrical Insulation for Rotating Machines covers all aspects in the design, deterioration, testing, and repair of the electrical insulation used in motors and generators of all ratings greater than fractional horsepower size. This authoritative reference clearly explains over 30 different rotor and stator winding failure processes, as well as methods to repair, or least slow down, each process.

Table of Contents:
Preface.1. Rotating Machine Insulation Systems.2. Evaluating Insulation Materials and Systems.3. Historical Development of Insulation Materials and Systems.4. Stator Winding Insulation Systems in Current Use.5. Rotor Winding Insulation Systems.6. Core Laminations and Their Insulation.7. General Principles of Winding Failure, Repair and Rewinding.8. Stator Failure Mechanisms and Repair.9. Rotor Winding Failure Mechanisms and Repair.10. Core Lamination Insulation Failure and Repair.11. General Principles of Testing and Monitoring.12. Off-Line Rotor and Stator Winding Tests.13. In-Service Monitoring of Stator and Rotor Windings.14. Core Testing.15. Acceptance and Site Testing of New Windings.16. Maintenance Strategies.Index.About the Authors.

About the Author :
GREG C. STONE, PhD, is a dielectrics engineer who is active in writing IEEE and IEC machine insulation standards, and who worked for the Research Division of Ontario Hydro testing its hundreds of motor and generator windings. He presently works for Iris Power Engineering. EDWARD A. BOULTER, Lt. Commander (Ret.), USN Reserves, is now a consulting engineer. Previously he spent nearly 40 years working as project/senior engineer and technical team leader designing machine insulation systems at General Electric. IAN CULBERT was a motor designer first for Parsons Peebles and then Reliance Electric. Prior to joining Iris Power Engineering, he worked for Ontario Power Generation as a motor specialist. HUSSEIN DHIRANI is a senior generator design engineer at Ontario Power Generation.

Review :
"This is a very practical reference book on motor/generator insulation design and repair, and it is sure to become a well-used classic by those who design, maintain, and repair large rotating machines." (IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, May/June 2004, Vol. 20, No. 3) "Clearly written and easily understood...this book is a valuable companion to the 1977 Rejda-Neville Industrial Motor Users' Handbook of Insulation for Rewids..." (Electrical Apparatus, March 2004)
