About the Book

A manager's must-have guide to evaluating and managing the expatriate process With the hurried pace of corporate globalization confronting today's managers, the need to review the effectiveness of the overseas assignment program becomes crucial to the organization's future competitiveness. This book describes the best practices for expatriate assignments, covering the entire process from initial identification of the job's requirements to the repatriation of the employee. It is targeted to the corporate manager of the program and can be helpful to the expatriate as well. Topics covered in this book include evaluating the assignment as to its fit into the firm's strategy; the need to identify the real requirements of this position; an effective screening and selection process; and how the expatriate and his or her family will be prepared for an assignment. It is more cohesive and comprehensive than any noncontributed handbook on the subject. Stan Lomax (New York, NY), attorney at law, is presently consulting on human resource issues for the SK Group. In addition, he teaches expatriate programs at both Cornell and the University of South Carolina.
