About the Book

With the recent development of adequate high speed parallel computing facilities it is becoming possible to utilize increasingly complex mathematical models that involve more aspects of the relevant physics. Hence, there is a rapidly growing need for the development of more complete analytical models and the appropriate algorithms for the numerical integration of these analytical models. Consequently, the objective of this book is to address these novel features thus building beyond the material published in the existing books and hopefully contributing to a new era of research in EMFD, which has been relatively dormant for the past three decades. The book will provide a background resource and theory to allow implementation of numerical analysis for unified EMFD flows.  Numerical examples will include solutions of problems A starting point for researchers which provides a comparison of the traditional sub-models and the new unifying EMFD model for single phase and phase-changing fluid flows. Material for advanced graduate level courses on EMFD. Key references in archival media for further studies Numerous examples of numerical analysis and optimisation of EMFD

About the Author :
George S. Dulikravich (Ph.D.’79 - Cornell; M.Sc.’75 - Minnesota; Dipl.Ing.’73 - Belgrade) worked as an NRC Associate Fellow at NASA LeRC, a Visiting Scientist at DFVLR-Goettingen, and a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin (‘82-’86), Pennsylvania State University (‘86-’99), and the University of Texas at Arlington (‘99-‘03). He is currently a professor and director of MAIDROC Lab in the Dept. of Mechanical and Materials Eng. at Florida International University. He has over 485 highly multi-disciplinary publications in the fields of numerical analysis, inverse problems and optimization design spanning aerospace, mechanical, biomedical, industrial, materials and chemical engineering. In 1994, Dulikravich founded the Inverse Problems in Engineering journal and serves as its Editor-in-Chief. He is also a Fellow of ASME, AAM, RAeS and an Associate Fellow of AIAA. Brian H. Dennis received his B.S. (1995), M.Sc. (1997), and Ph.D.(2000) in Aerospace Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University where he focused on the development of finite element methods for simulating the interaction of conducting fluids with electromagnetic fields. He was a postdoctoral researcher (2001-2003) and then a visiting Associate Professor (2003-2004) at the University of Tokyo where he worked on the development of software for large scale finite element analysis and design optimization on parallel computers.  Dennis is currently a Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and co-director of the Center for Renewable Energy Science and Technology at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has over 150 technical publications including one issued patent and several more in application. His current research focuses on the synthesis of liquid fuels via thermochemical, electrochemical, and photochemical processes.  Marcelo J. Colaco (Ph.D.’01, M.Sc.’98 and B.Sc.’96, UFRJ, Brazil) is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Eng., UFRJ, Brazil. He spent 15 months as a postdoctoral fellow at the Univ. of Texas at Arlington working on optimization algorithms, inverse problems in heat transfer, and EMHD including solidification. Then, he spent one year performing research at UFRJ/COPPE as an instructor and a researcher. Colaco spent five years teaching at the Brazilian Military Institute of Engineering and performed research on algorithms for analysis of MHD and EHD flows, solidification, optimization algorithms utilizing response surfaces, and fuel research. For the past six years, he has been teaching and performing research at UFRJ while helping build a large and unique research center for fuels and lubricants.
