About the Book

Please note this is an Open Access title available via Science Direct. Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Materials: Graphene-Based Composites and Beyond offers a thorough, systematic overview of the advances made in research on composites-based materials for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding during the past several decades. The use of smartphones, wearable electronics, wi-fi, microwaves, and other smart devices is ubiquitous in modern life. All of these electronics emit electromagnetic waves (EMWs) that create electromagnetic pollution. EMWs can cause serious issues such as electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and information leakage. There is an urgent need for inexpensive, environmentally friendly materials that can mitigate the effects of EMI, and this book provides a through investigation of the shielding capabilities of graphene and other novel nanomaterials. The current state of materials used in EMI shielding is discussed, together with synthesis and fabrication methods, relevant mechanisms, measurements, measuring devices, calculations, physicochemical properties, and applications. The book provides detailed analysis of carbon-based nanomaterials and their composites, including materials fabrication, characterization, and advanced application in EMI shielding. The beneficial effects of these new shielding materials will be relevant in the fields of telecommunications, the electronics industry, the automotive industry, ecology, healthcare, medicine, security, and military applications.

Table of Contents:
1. Introduction 2. Electromagnetic wave to material interaction and microwave materials measurements 3. Modelling and measurement of the interaction of electromagnetic waves with shielding materials 4. Nano electromagnetic materials 5. Electromagnetic waves: EM interference, equipment lifetime, measuring errors, and the market of EMW 6. Effects and concerns of EMI on human health and environment 7. Advanced EMI shielding materials for the future 8. Carbon-based nanomaterials: Synthesis, structure, and properties 9. Graphene and related nanomaterials in EMW shielding 10. Conductive polymers and their carbon-based composites in EMI shielding

About the Author :
Jovana Prekodravac is an Assistant Professor at the Vinča Institute of the Nuclear Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia. Her research interests are focused on the synthesis, modification, and application of carbon-based nanomaterials in the form of colloids and thin films, carbon quantum dots, photocatalytic applications, titanium dioxide, silver nanowires, carbon-based nanocomposites, and graphene. Małgorzata Celuch is President and Senior Scientist at QWED, a high-tech company that she co-founded in 1997. Her background is in computational electromagnetics and she is lead co-author of the QuickWaveTM multiphysics simulation software commercialised by QWED. Her research focuses on applying full-wave computational modelling for the development of methods and instruments for precise measurements of materials in microwave and mmWave ranges. Kamel Haddadi is a Professor with the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics, and Nanotechnology, a joint research unit between the University of Lille and the CNRS, Lille, France. He is the Head of the Lab-Space RF-2S (Radio-Frequency Sensing and Services) dedicated to the development of microwave/mmWave instrumentation and sensors for non-destructive testing applications. Dragana (Jovanović) Marinković is a Professor at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia. Her research interests address the development of new and innovative methods for the synthesis of nanomaterials in the form of powder, colloids, and thin films; synthesis and characterization of (nano)materials with enhanced properties: oxides and semiconductors; polymer nanocomposites; carbon-based nanomaterials; and photocatalysis.
