About the Author :
Tania Itzel Serrano-Arévalo is a Researcher in the Chemical Engineering Department, at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. She obtained her Master and Ph.D degrees in Chemical Engineering at the same institution. She has published several papers, with her paper ‘Optimal Planning for Satisfying Future Electricity Demands Involving Simultaneously Economic, Emissions, and Water Concerns’ in the Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability journal receiving the Best Paper Award 2020. She has also been invited to act as reviewer for the Sustainable Production and Consumption journal. Dr. Serrano-Arévalo research focuses on process optimization (mono-objective and multi-objective) and sustainable energy planning. Xate Geraldine Sánchez-Zarco is a Researcher in the Chemical Engineering Department, at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. She received her Master and Ph.D degrees in Chemical Engineering from the same institution, and was awarded the Dr. Ignacio Chávez Sánchez 2021 award for academic merits in postgraduate studies. She has 12 published papers, including an article on ‘Multi-objective Optimization Approach to Meet Water, Energy, and Food Needs in an Arid Region Involving Security Assessment’ which was highlighted in the ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering journal as the cover of the April 2021 edition. She has also been invited to act as reviewer for the Sustainable Production and Consumption journal. Dr. Sánchez-Zarco’s research is focused on decision-making in highly non-convex problems in the context of the water-energy-food nexus. Francisco Javier López Flores is a Researcher in the Chemical Engineering Department, at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. He received his Master and Ph.D. degrees at the same institution. He has published 10 scientific papers and presented his research at 19 international or regional conferences. He has also been invited to act as a reviewer for numerous journals. Dr. López Flores’ research interests are in the areas of process optimization, energy integration, planning strategies and machine learning. Luis Fernando Lira-Barragán is a full time Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. He obtained his Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the same institution, before working as a postdoctoral researcher at Texas A&M University, United States. Since September 2015, Dr. Lira-Barragán is a full Professor at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, as well as a member of the National Research System of Mexico. He has published 29 papers and 7 book chapters, and has supervised numerous postgraduate and undergraduate students. Prof. Lira-Barragán’s research interests are focused on mass integration, shale gas production, simulation of watersheds, energy integration, synthesis of HENs, and recovery of residual energy. Fabricio Nápoles-Rivera is a full time Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. He obtained his Ph.D. and Masters degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Celaya in Mexico. He is a member of the National Research System of Mexico and currently Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. Prof. Nápoles-Rivera has published more than 70 papers, and has supervised 11 Ph.D. and 12 Master students. His research interests are sustainable processes, water networks and energy systems optimization. César Ramírez-Márquez is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chemical Engineering Department of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, in 2020. His current research focuses on the production of materials for the solar energy industry and base chemicals in the chemical industry. He has published more than 55 journal papers, six book chapters, presented his work at over fifteen international and regional conferences, and holds four patents. José María Ponce-Ortega is a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Mexico. He earned his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Celaya, Mexico, in 2009 and 2003, respectively. He completed postdoctoral research at Texas A&M University, USA, and served as a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Dr. Ponce-Ortega is a full professor and a member of the National Research System of Mexico. His research focuses on the optimization of chemical processes, sustainable design, energy, mass, water, and property integration, and supply chain optimization. He has published more than 310 papers, five books, and 60 book chapters. He has supervised 30 Ph.D. students and 50 Master’s students and secured funding for 15 research projects totaling approximately $1,000,000. Dr. Ponce-Ortega serves on the editorial boards of Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy and Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability, and is a subject editor for Sustainable Production and Consumption, as well as associate editor in Frontiers in Chemical Engineering
