About the Book

The Potential of Intermittent Fasting in Age-related Diseases and Precision Anti-aging Therapeutics takes an in-depth look at the beneficial and efficacious role of Intermittent Fasting (IF) in a wide array of aging-associated diseases. It provides a comprehensive resource that not only outlines the potential benefits and future research directions but also delves into the limitations and nuances of IF in managing these conditions. The book is divided sections and begins by covering the fundamentals of aging and the effects of IF. Subsequent sections examine the physiological impact IF has on aging; its potential influence on stress resistance, heart, gut, and overall health optimization; social and ethical considerations as a therapeutic strategy; bridging IF research findings and clinical practice; and the potential integration and application of IF into age-related diseases treatment. Offering a consolidated and scientifically grounded perspective aimed at equipping readers with a balanced understanding, this book serves as a go-to reference for researchers and clinicians alike seeking clear and accurate insights into how IF can positively influence the health and longevity of the aging population.

Dr. Abhishek Kumar Singh, PhD, is Associate Professor at Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, India. He has over fifteen years research experience in the neurobiology of aging using multiple model systems. His primary research investigates the interplay between autophagy and pro-survival pathways during the aging of the brain and aging-induced neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, he develops caloric restriction mimetics-based strategies to slow down brain aging to improve health span and lifespan. Dr. Singh has published more than 50 research articles in international journals of high repute, edited two books, and contributed to over fifteen book chapters in international publications. Dr. Singh currently serves as Academic Editor of PLOS One and guest editor and referee for more than 10 journals. He is life member of various international scientific societies, including the Indian Academy of Neuroscience and Society of Toxicology India. Dr. Jitendra Kumar Sinha, PhD, is the Chief Scientific Officer at GloNeuro Academy, Noida and Neuroscience Visiting Faculty at Jiwaji University, Gwalior, India. His research interests include the neurobiology of aging and obesity, nutritional neuroscience, anti-aging paradigms and neuropharmacology. He has over 16 years experience in research and education, including high level course development and mentorship. He has a long-standing interest in animal models of aging and epilepsy, with focus on oxidative protein damage, DNA damage, and aging biomarkers, and notably established the heaviest rodent model for studying molecular mechanism of enhanced aging. Dr. Sinha has authored over 70 publications in several leading journals on aging, epilepsy, obesity, sleep, and spinal cord injury. He has served as guest editor, referee, or member of the editorial board for over 25 journals and received various prestigious awards from Government of India, International Brain Research Organization, International Society for Neurochemistry, among others. Dr Raviraja N Seetharam, PhD, MBA, is an outstanding scientist and business development professional having more than 25 years of research experience in diverse areas of biology/biopharma. Dr Ravi joined MEMG group company, Stempeutics Research, in 2010 and served for ten years as centre head. In April 2020, he joined Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) as the founding Director of Corporate Relations and established that vertical until June 2023. In March 2023, he became the Director of Planning and Monitoring, MAHE. He was instrumental in establishing Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research, MAHE, envisioning the development of new generation of biotherapeutics. He currently serves as Professor and Coordinator of Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research, MAHE, Manipal, where his research primarily focuses on the area of stem cells and other biotherapeutics.
