About the Author :
Dr. Dilber Uzun Ozsahin is an accomplished Associate Professor in the Medical Diagnostic Imaging Department of the College of Health Science at the University of Sharjah. She serves as the director of the Operational Research Centre in Healthcare at the Near East University since 2020 and is establishing a new research group focused on operational research and integrated artificial intelligence in healthcare at the University of Sharjah. Assoc. Prof. Ilker Ozsahin is a highly experienced professional in the field of medical imaging, specializing in technologies such as Positron Emission Tomography, Positron Emission Mammography, Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography, and Compton Camera. With a diverse scientific background encompassing high-energy physics, solid-state physics, and medical imaging, he has conducted research across various prestigious institutions worldwide. Ilker's academic pursuits have taken him to the University of Illinois in the USA, where he studied carbon nanotube formation, and to Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona in Spain, where he completed his PhD studies on PET. Additionally, he served as a research assistant at Cukurova University in Turkey for six years while pursuing his PhD. Following the completion of his doctoral degree, he was awarded the International Postdoctoral Research Scholarship by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, enabling him to conduct postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). During this time, he contributed to the development of advanced gamma cameras and image reconstruction algorithms, as well as investigating the impact of general anesthesia on brain function in small animals using functional imaging techniques. Ilker has also worked as a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the University of Macau, focusing on multi-pinhole SPECT collimator design for brain, cardiac, and small animal imaging. Additionally, he has conducted research at CERN for HCAL upgrade studies in the CMS experiment. Currently, Ilker serves as an Associate Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Near East University and holds the position of visiting fellow at Cornell University. Dr. David has made contributions to the field of medical imaging, her research has been published in numerous prestigious journals, and she has presented works at conferences and workshops. She is also actively involved in academic advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects. She has experience in conducting qualitative research studies, including interviews, and focus groups. Her areas of research interest are Breast cancer imaging, interprofessional education, patient dose monitoring, and osteoporosis. Beyond her academic skills, Dr. David is also involved in community service initiatives. She is a member of various professional societies and organizations that promote public awareness of medical imaging and breast cancer. She participates in outreach programs that provide free or low-cost imaging services to underserved communities and is passionate about using her expertise to help those in need. Dr. Suresh Sukumar is an Additional Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging Technology at Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and also serves as the RSO level 1 in Kasturba Hospital Manipal Karnataka. He has previously served as an Adjunct Faculty in Sikkim Manipal University. Dr. Sukumar has received ICMR- Extra Mural Research Funding for his work in establishing diagnostic reference levels and optimization of radiation dose for head and neck and pelvic computed tomography protocols in radiation therapy planning. He is an experienced PhD Guide and Co-Guide with 21 published articles, 4 review articles, 1 conference contribution, 2 review books, and 5 manuscript reviews. His areas of interest include Computed Tomography & MRI, Sedentary behaviour and vascular function, CT low kVp techniques, physical activity & yoga in the geriatric population (cognitive function), Tool development and validation, and Qualitative study. He is an expert in Radiology and Imaging, with a research focus on Sedentary behaviour and vascular function. Dr. Sukumar has patents for X-ray supporting pad and X-Ray chair and copyright for Medical practitioner’s perception towards radiological examinations, Standardized radiation perception tool for a radiology technologist, and Development and Validation of a Tool to Assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Perception of Women towards Screening Mammography. Dr. Suresh is also actively involved in various professional bodies in Radiography. Berna Uzun graduated from Çukurova University Mathematics Department in 2009. She got her Masters Degree from Çukurova University, Econometrics Department Adana/Turkey in 2015. During her Master study between 2012-2013, she has studied at Lazarski University Economics Department Warsaw/Poland and between 2014-2015 she did internship at University of Autonoma de Barcelona, Barcelona/Spain, as an assistant of institute manager. Her research interest area is mainly on Fuzzy Sets, Fuzzy Markov Chains and its Economic Applications, Operational Research. She joined Near East University, Faculty of Engineering in September 29, 2016 as an instructor.
