Routledge Handbook of International Statebuilding

This new Handbook offers a combination of theoretical, thematic and empirical analyses of the statebuilding regime, written by leading international scholars. Over the past decade, international statebuilding has become one of the most important and least understood areas of international policy-making. Today, there are around one billion people living in some 50-60 conflict-affected, 'fragile' states, vulnerable to political violence and civil war. The international community grapples with the core challenges and dilemmas of using outside force, aid, and persuasion to build states in the wake of conflict and to prevent such countries from lapsing into devastating violence. About the Author :
David Chandler is Professor of International Relations at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Westminster. He is a regular media commentator, editor of the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding and the general editor of the Routledge book series Studies in Intervention and Statebuilding. He is the author or editor of over a dozen books. Timothy D. Sisk is Professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and International Peace (SDIP), a research and policy institute at the School. He is author or editor of three previous books.
