About the Book

First published between 1813 and 1828 The Pamphleteer is a unique collection of pamphlets and articles on a variety of subjects including philosophy, politics, political economy, jurisprudence, education and literature. An important forum of debate during a key period in modern history, The Pamphleteer abounds with works of significance and interest. The collection represents primary source material in the history of social sciences, and gives an invaluable overview of contemporary debates on a wide range of issues. Consisting of 58 parts in 29 volumes, The Pamphleteer contains about 550 pamphlets, with an average length of around 30 pages. It includes over 100 pamphlets published here for the first time, including Jeremy Bentham's first writings on a number of legal and economic matters. Other well known authors whose work is included in the collection are: Huskisson, Vansittart, Torrens, Crombie, Ganilh, Frend, Grenfell, Sinclair, the Earl of Liverpool, Heathfield, Naismith, Young, Clarkson, Blane, Thomas Smith, S. Gray, Brydges, Higgins, and Senior. The editor and publisher of The Pamphleteer was Abraham John Valpy (1787-1854), a member of the distinguished literary family from Jersey. In addition to The Pamphleteer , Valpy became famous for publishing the Classical Journal (1810-29), and the reissue of Henry Stephens' Thesaurus Graecae Linguae .
