F uit, ut ajunt, Ciceroni sanitas quae dam animi a natura innata atque hominum usu cor roborata quae 1mpr1mrs eflecit, ut rn virtutum via ostendenda veram naturae humanae conditionem se queretur, neque minus recte vitiorum orrgmem ape riret. Accedit, quod non versabatur rn aliquo certo literarum genere, neque in una re, vel in arte ora toria, ' vel m philosophia quasi tabernaculum vitae collocabat, sed vana studiorum genera aggressus est, quam ob rem inter multa alia diversi argumenti scripta librum c, onsolationis seu de lacta mmuendo confecit, ut sibi aliisque, qur maerore jacerent, solatio esset prae'ceptis ex philosophia et vitae usu petitis. Omnium quidem antiquorum communis fuit sententia, vitam postponendam esse morti; nihilo minus in luctu erant, si quid adversi iis accidit. Neque tamen defuit maerentibus auxiliurh. Opitulari atque solatia afferro iis, qui in calamitatibus versabantur, doloremqueminuere\ studebant; quo factum est, ut complura opera exsisterent, quibus de dolore et morte ita age bant, ut magnam non esse ìmlamitatem, qua oppri merentur maerentes, demonstrarent atque ita doloribus afflictos consolarentur.
