About the Book

Si n Phillips triumphed in the West End last year with her performance in MARLENE. It was a tour de force of her acting career which has spanned over 40 years.

In this exceptional autobiography covering her early life she writes of her unlikely beginnings growing up as an only child in the remote Welsh countryside, a life which hadn t changed for centuries. But Si n determined to be an actress at an early age and was working in BBC Radio from the age of 11 alongside such greats as Dylan Thomas and Richard Burton. Her real ambitions were not realised, however, until she won a scholarship to RADA. Leaving her first, short lived marriage, the country bumpkin arrived in London to learn her trade and fall in love with Peter O Toole...

About the Author :
Si n Philipps began acting in BBC Radio when only 11. Since then she has appeared in numerous plays, films and TV dramas, including I CLAUDIUS, GOODBYE MR CHIPS, SHOULDER TO SHOULDER, THE SCOLD'S BRIDLE, and MARLENE which is shortly to open on Broadway. She has received several acting awards both here and in America. She was married to Peter O Toole for 20 years and has two daughters.

Review :
Beautifully written, funny and, in the account of her childhood in Wales, a lovely evocation of a largely vanished world. She is beguilingly honest and unaffectedly modest ... The book is entirely charming - Thomas Ellis in the Daily Telegraph Books of the Y

Her story is immediately rich, valid and peopled with a properly engaging cast of characters ... Told with conviction and love - Independent on Sunday Books of the Year

A stimulating work of art ... A rare bird indeed among "showbiz" books - Daily Telegraph

As an actress and now as a writer, Phillips has a charisma of her own ... She records every detail with infectious relish - The Sunday Times
