About the Author :
IAN HERBERT originally qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant and in almost 20 years in industry he undertook a variety of other roles in finance, marketing and general management. He moved into higher education in 1990, initially with Nottingham Trent University and later with the University of Derby, where he held the post of Placements Manager for a number of years. He is presently Lecturer at Loughborough University Business School. He has seen selection and training processes from both sides and has a keen interest in the concept of self-managed life-long learning. He believes that work experience in tandem with academic studies is increasingly important in being work-ready on graduation not only in terms of personal development and growth but also in getting ahead of the competition at interview. ANDREW ROTHWELL is a Senior Lecturer in Career Development and Human Resource Management at the University of Derby, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. His previous publications include papers and articles on a range of subjects, including employability, continuing professional development, and teaching and learning in international contexts.
