About the Book

The Gold Medallion Award-winning Expositor's Bible Commentary is a major contribution to the study and understanding of the Scriptures. Providing pastors and Bible students with a comprehensive and scholarly tool for the exposition of the Scriptures and the teaching and proclamation of their message, this twelve-volume reference work has become a staple of seminary and college libraries and pastors' studies worldwide. The seventy-eight contributors come from the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand, and from many denominations, including Anglican, Baptist, Brethren, Methodist, Nazarene, Presbyterian, and Reformed. They represent the best in evangelical scholarship committed to the divine inspiration, complete trustworthiness, and full authority of the Bible. The Expositor's Bible Commentary uses the New International Version for its English text, but also refers freely to other translations and to the original languages. Each book of the Bible has, in addition to its exposition, an introduction, outline, and bibliography. Notes on textual questions and special problems are correlated with the expository units; transliteration and translation of Semitic and Greek words make the more technical notes accessible to readers unacquainted with the biblical languages. In matters where marked differences of opinion exist, commentators, while stating their own convictions, deal fairly and irenically with opposing views. Review :
'The serious Bible student, whether seminarian, pastor, or layman, will be delighted with this concise but thorough treatment of the biblical text.' -- Eternity 'The serious Bible student, whether seminarian, pastor, or layman, will be delighted with this concise but thorough treatment of the biblical text.' -- Eternity .,."a refreshing change from some of the major commentaries of the past...quite readable. In general the writers are concerned to help the reader understand the flow of the Bible book, rather than digressing into speculative questions with little spiritual value." -- Interest .,."a roaring success. Both form and style contribute to readability, and the scholarship is sound without being pedantic or tedious." -- Christianity Today .,."a very helpful addition to the library of anyone interested in studying and teaching the Scriptures more effectively." -- The Seminary Review .,."excellent series...a valuable reference source in any evangelical pastor' s library." -- The Evangelical Beacon .,."one of the greatest pieces of religious literature published in this generation. We cannot recommend it too highly." -- Pulpit Workshop "For those needing a good commentary, you will find in this set one of the best." -- The Baptist Sentinel "It is the kind of commentary that should be in all church libraries as well as in homes of persons who care to understand the Bible beyond Americanized ideologies of self-oriented experience." -- Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society "The author list [of the Expositor's Bible Commentary] reads like a page from a who's who of evangelical Bible scholars. A quality product. Unquestionably wise for the serious student to plan to secure each volume." -- Eternity "The four writers in this volume provide a sound guide to the meaning of the works with which they deal. This will be a useful volume for a minister to have on his shelves." -- The Expository Times "The serious Bible student, whether seminarian, pastor, or layman, will be delighted with this concise but thorough treatment of the biblical text." -- Eternity "The 78 authors represent the best evangelical scholarship in the English-speaking world...a rich feast." -- Crux [Volumes 10 and 11] introduce a new, comprehensive commentary on the books of the Old and New Testament, a joint enterprise of some 78 contributors projected for 12 volumes. A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
