About the Book

COMFORT TO THE ENEMY is a dazzling novel in three parts. Taken from the beginning, middle and mature years of Carl Webster's crime-fighting career, these three tales show Elmore Leonard at the top of his game. The title story begins with a murder at a German POW camp. We're in Webster's twilight years: the bank robbers of the 1920s are gone and Carl has married Louly. Oklahoma is full of POW camps with crewmen and grenadiers from the Afrika Korps and some just keep escaping. Befriending one escapee, Carl gets embroiled in a tale of gangsters' molls, enemy lines and promises of what will happen after the war. With excellent dialogue, grippingly credible characters and the glamour of sex and bad reputation, COMFORT TO THE ENEMY is all you'd expect from the grand old man of American crime fiction.

About the Author :
Elmore Leonard has written more than forty books during his phenomenal career. Many of his books have been made into successful movies, including Get Shorty with John Travolta, Out of Sight with George Clooney and Rum Punch (which became Tarantino's Jackie Brown).

Review :
an excellent read. The zing of Leonard's prose, the ease with which his characters come to life and the moral questions raised by the 1940s setting... are concrete evidence of a master crime writer still at the top of his game. - WATERSTONES BOOKS QUARTERLY 10.04.09 - RUSSEL MCLEAN, author of The Good Son Elmore Leonard has been my favourite crime novelist for a long time.. A little violence, a little humour and some sexual innuendo makes for an enjoyable page-turner. - WATERSTONES BOOKS QUARTERLY 10.04.09 - PATRICK QUINLAN an enjoyable immersion in a Bonnie and Clyde world of celebrity criminals, plucky lawmen and sassy women. - SUNDAY TIMES - 7.06.09 - JOHN DUGDALE American crime fiction rules, and Elmore Leonard is the don... With books that inspired Tarantino to get the camera out, Leonard now releases his 37th efford. Comfort to the Enemy is a collection of three short stories that start in a POW camp, written in a modern style and expertly driven street jive. - LOADED - 1.08.09 pretty delicious... revel in the writing. Leonard may be frequently to as the "Dickens of Detroit" but he is more like Jane Austen in his ability to sum up a whole character in a sentence... This book has more than its share of dialogue to die for. - THE DAILY TELEGRAPH - 6.06.09 "The excitment comes from the zinging dialogue and characters, who are as colourful as the cover o
