About the Author :
Roger Crittenden started his career at the National Film and Television School as Head of Editing, whilst continuing to edit films and documentaries. He has served on the Arts Council Films Committee, The Scottish Film Production Fund and The Scottish Film Training Trust and is a member of BAFTA. He is currently a review editor and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Media practice as well as the board for the Executive Committee of The Association of Media Practice Educators. He has enjoyed a distinguished career in the cutting rooms and has many films to his credit. He was given an award for `Sustained Excellence as Film Editor' at the BBC. Roger is author of two books on editing as well as a book on Truffaut for the British Film Institute's Film Classic Series.

Review :
'The cutting room is where you learn how to make films, where you face up to your limitations and realise what you should have done. So you'd better have a good relationship with your editor. The people talking here are amongst the best. Treat them well.'
Stephen Frears - director of 'Prick up Your Ears', My Beautiful Launderette', 'Dangerous Liaisons', 'The Grifters' and 'The Snapper'

"Crittenden has juxtaposed individual interviews with essays and critical arguments by some of the directors who worked alongside these editors. Essays by Godard and Truffaut, for example, usefully bookend the interview with Guillemot. For anyone who has enjoyed the French New Wave, Italian Neo-Realism or the films of Andrei Tarkovsky or Ingmar Bergman, Crittenden's volume will be essential reading."
Ray Zone - American Editors Guild magazine

'The editors I know are full of insights and revealing stories about their work - this looks a good read, full of great anecdotes.'
Ken Loach - director of The Navigators, Land and Freedom, Kes and Sweet Sixteen
