About the Book

Low-paid employment is a key issue for labour market policy. The essays in this book provide new evidence regarding the impact of the minimum wage legislation on employment, earnings mobility among low-paid workers, job satisfaction across the earnings distribution, unemployment traps, the effect of international outsourcing on the demand for low-skilled workers, and the existence of monopsonistic competition. Empirical findings, reported by leading experts, cover six European countries, i.e. Belgium, Germany, Italy, Ireland, the UK and Switzerland. These findings are of particular relevance for academics, policymakers, government advisors and journalists.
