About the Book

A global power transformation is taking place without a major war or any other cataclysmic event. The great powers -- China, India and Russia -- challenge the Hegemon -- the United States -- as well as each other with their strategic maneuvers. In this book, Ehsan Ahrari shows that while the sustained rise of China as the US' proto-peer is a reality, there is nothing inevitable about the demise of the US as the superpower. The next decade of the 21st Century may witness the emergence of a bipolar order where China leads in economics but does not seriously challenge the military dominance of the US. India's powers will grow, not least due to its evolving strategic partnership with the US. Russia, however, will be left behind largely due to its weak economy. Finally, he argues that the US will remain the lone superpower, because of its sustained strategic dominance in East Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, and because it has maintained a highly proactive profile in leading the world economy out of the current recession.

Table of Contents:

Review :
"Ehsan Ahrari has written a brilliant and insightful work that details the emerging, complex world of changing power bases. He artfully proposes a course for navigating this challenging new world that our political leaders should consider. The Great Powers versus the Hegemon is a must read for those who want to understand the new world order that is upon us." -- General Anthony C. Zinni USMC (Retired), Former Commander U.S. CENTCOM 'Ehsan Ahrari has done a superb job in this book, providing a realistic and stark picture of how the global economic crisis affects great power relations in the first decade of the 21st Century. This is an excellent book to focus the minds of strategic thinkers and policy makers on the security climate they face.' -- Larry M. Wortzel, Commissioner, U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission
