'It has been too hastily concluded (fays Mr 'Lindsey) from this part of Christ's prayer, that.he is asking Almighty God to bestow upon him something of which he had been 'in possession before the world was; but which b he had voluntarily relinquished, when he had his birth from his mother Mary. How little foundation there is for such a conclusion' . will appear by attending to the following cir'cumstances pointed out by our Lord himself, 'in this very prayer.' 'i He himself fays, ver. 4, 5, I have finished 'the work which thou gavest me to do: And now, O Father, glorify thou me, &c. This ssiews that the glory he prayed for was to be subsequent to the faithful discharge of his 'duty to God in this life, and the reward of 'it.' That the re-instatement in glory which. our Lord prayed for, was to be subsequent to the faithful discharge of his duty, or, as he himself mbst properly expresses it, his finishing the work which the Father gave him to do, is very true; but the glory itself our Lord expressly fays, was a glory he had with the Father before the world was. Mr Lindsey seems convinced, that these words of our Lord can never be accommodated to his views; and therefore in his paraphrase, (Sequel 251.) he expunges them thus, ' And now, O Father, compleat thine own work, in the happy benesicial consequences of my death, and speedy restoration to life, as in thine a...
