Excerpt from book: THE TITHE THE TITHE ACT, 1836.(a) (6 and 7 Will. 4, Cap. 71.) An Act for the Commutation of Tithes in England and Wales. [13th August, 1836.] 1. [Bepealed by the Statute Law Revision (No. 2) Act, 1890, and the Statute Law Revision Act, 1874.] Sections 1 and 2, now repealed, dealt with the appointment of the Tithe Commissioners, their style, seal, andc. By 14 and 15 Viet. c. 63 (1851), all powers and duties of the Tithe Commissioners not fully exercised and performed were transferred to Commissioners to be appointed under that Act, who were to combine the office of Copyhold, Inclosure, and Tithe Commissioners. These (a) This Act is in the Tithe Act, 1891, referred to and may be cited as the Tithe Act, 1836; and this Act and the Acts amending the same passed before the passing of the Act of 1890 may be cited as the Tithe Acts. (54 Viet. c. 8, s. 12.) By the Short Titles Act, 1892 (55 Viet. c. 10), each of the Acts mentioned in the First Schedule to that Act may, without prejudice to any other mode of citation, be cited by the short title therein mentioned in that behalf, and each of the groups of Acts mentioned in the Second Schedule may in the same way be cited by the collective title therein mentioned in that behalf. And whenever an Act passed after the passing of that Act is directed to be read with any of such groups, that group is to be construed as including the new Act, and if the collective title of the group states the first and hist years of the groups, the year in which the new Act is passed is to be substituted for the hist year. The Tithe Acts have each a short title given them, which will be shown at the beginning of the Act as in the case of this Act, and they are grouped collectively as The Tithe Acts, 1836 to 1891.
