About the Book

Reading Between the Lines is the higher-level book of a new, two-book reading series with a focus on inference and critical reading, intended for developing readers. The text foregrounds inference by discussing the skills and strategies required for “reading between the lines,” that is, critical thinking, critical reading, and reading comprehension. Learning and study strategies are also discussed. Reading Between the Lines teaches students how to identify the “other story” behind both academic and professional texts, to dig beyond the literal, to think critically, to understand the varied levels of meaning in a line, and to create informed opinions about modern issues affecting our daily lives.
