About the Author :
Dr. Alan Van Heuvelen, a faculty member at Ohio State University, is a respected physics professor known nationally for a creative multiple-representation and active learning method of teaching physics. The multiple representation method is based on research on how students actually learn physics. Paul D'Alessandris received his B.S. in Physics from Carnegie-Mellon University and his M.S. in Physics from Harvard University, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Physics at Monroe Community College. Professor D'Alessandris has received two grants from the National Science Education in the field of physics education and has lectured on the topic at a number of schools. Lecture topics include assessing laboratory effectiveness in teaching rotational motion concepts, integrating computer tools into the introductory laboratory, a comparison of instructional methods in the teaching of rolling motion, and the development of conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills in the introductory physics course.
