About the Book

To deliver safe and effective patient care student nurses need to find, critique, and use evidence in every day nursing decisions and academic work, Consequently they need a new textbook that goes further than simply explaining research methods. Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Skills has been developed as a one stop shop for research theory and evidence based practice skills for all aspects of the pre-registration nursing course - in both the classroom and on clinical placement. Taking a logical approach, the authors introduce the role of evidence based practice in nursing before explaining how research is produced and how students can find, read and critique it in order to make informed care decisions. Theory is applied to both academic and clinical work so readers can easily see how to weigh up the evidence before applying it to a nursing decision. Useful for the entire undergraduate course, the content is mapped against the skills required of registered nurses and includes practical advice for completing final year academic assignments. Written in an easy to read, student friendly manner the authors have brought together trustworthy and reliable advice in a way that's easy to dip into any time you need it- from writing an assignment, devising a nursing plan, documenting your placement learning outcomes, or finding advice on disseminating evidence for practice. This book has been truly designed to help student nurses become evidence based practitioners and to develop their nursing practice. Online Resource Centre The Online Resource Centre to accompany Nursing Evidence -Based Practice Skills features: · Practical tools such as checklists and notes to help students to really put the theory into practice · Web links to authoritative sources of research will quickly direct students to the best evidence · Hyperlinked bibliographies mean readers can easily access the referenced articles in the book · Our interactive glossary will help newcomers to the subject to understand the language of research

Review :
`Definitely a much needed textbook - it will go one step further than other books in actually showing how to use the evidence in practice... this book aims to bridge that gap when it comes to research... it would be a good investment because it will be more helpful for writing assignments and would still be useful after qualification' Joanna Holland, Newly Qualified nurse, England `Definitely a 10/10...I like the fact that this text is designed for use from the onset of training and focuses on both the theory and practice bases of evidence based practice. I also like the fact that it is written in such a way that it is not daunting to the reader ' Sheena Montcrieff, 1st year nursing student, England/Bournemouth `10/10 Very clear and concise with excellent explanation and discussion about how to go about preparing and researching the various types of EBP assignment you could be asked to complete... was better than any book I read before completing EBP assignments, and will be using this for future reference ' Kevin McAuley, third year student, Birmingham `It is a real world textbook that aims to give students the skills that they need, and gives sound rationale for why these are essential skills in nursing. ' Fiona McCandless-Sugg, Lecturer, University of Nottingham `I would certainly recommend this textbook to my students... it is an improvement on books currently available... the material I read was clear and readable and "unravelled" the often complex activity of critical appraisal... The straightforward style is a noteworthy achievement given the sometimes abstract descriptions of research methods in many textbooks! ' Dr Andree Dignon, lecturer, Coventry University `Very well written, straightforward and easy to understand... Its main strength is based on the practical approach taken and this is evident throughout as there are lots of references to clinical placement experiences that the student will be able to carry out. ' Analisa Smythe Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
