About the Book

for SSAA unaccompanied This heartfelt setting of words by the composer begins with a pianissimo drone over which the sopranos introduce the expressive melody. With lush harmonies, moments of dynamic intensity, and an overriding sense of awe, it would make an ideal centrepiece for a Christmas or Epiphany concert or service. A version for SATB is also available.

About the Author :
British composer and pianist Will Todd has worked at the Royal Opera House, the Lincoln Center in New York, London's Barbican, and with Welsh National Opera, award-winning choirs The Sixteen, BBC Singers, and Tenebrae. He travels extensively world-wide, workshopping with choirs, and conducting performances of his works. Will's music is valued for its melodic intensity and harmonic skill, often incorporating jazz colours, and his choral music is much in demand from amateur as well as professional performers. He is best-known for his choral works, and his jazz-inspired Mass in Blue has been performed hundreds of times since its premiere in 2003. This has been followed by his critically acclaimed Passion Music. His anthem, The Call of Wisdom, was commissioned for HRH The Queen's Diamond Jubilee service at Westminster Abbey.

Review :
Will Todd's My Lord has come is an intense and, in some ways, demanding piece with second altos repeatedly singing bottom F sharps (in one place optionally bottom E). Yet it is also highly singable, with harmonies that are easy to hear in advance and well-shaped vocal lines. The words are by the composer, describing the shepherds called by love and sages searching for love, but as a fortissimo climax 'his love will hold me' because, in the words of the title that are also a refrain, 'My Lord has come.'
