Review :
Lindvall's book lucidly conveys what we know - in terms of theories and concepts as well as facts on the ground - and also stimulates students' curiosity for what we do not know, making it an excellent introduction to comparative politics. A concise, accessible, and truly global introduction to comparative politics illustrated with a large variety of case studies. This textbook provides students not just with the conceptual knowledge necessary to follow current political affairs, but introduces them to key theoretical and empirical tools and prompts them to engage those tools to deepen their understanding of today's political systems. This text explains the foundational aspects of any class on comparative politics in a readily accessible manner, but without sacrificing accuracy, depth, or nuance. The writing style is highly approachable for undergraduate students, which in an era of possible disengagement, is a strong asset. An excellent introductory textbook on comparative politics that is thorough and systematic yet accessible and that is written for and with today's students in mind. I am so impressed by this book. It covers a huge amount of ground in a concise and engaging fashion, bringing important political issues and academic controversies to students' attention, in a book with a broad geographic focus.
