About the Author :
Debbie Longman is currently an associate professor at Southeast Louisiana State University. She received her PH.D from Louisiana State University and has been teaches college reading and developmental education courses for 20 years. Debbie (with co-author Rhonda Atkinson) has published dozens of textbooks and is active in NADE (the National Association for Developmental Education). Her professional interests range from incorporating critical thinking into development education to identifying individual learning styles for students with different reading skills. Rhonda H. Atkinson is currently an assistant professor at Central Missouri State University where she teaches college reading classes in a unique format that combines the reading course, a 3-credit course in social studies, and a Supplemental Instruction (peer-led) study group. She has over 20 years of experience in higher education as both a faculty member and director of a learning center. Additionally, Rhonda is a curriculum writer whose topics have included industrial construction trades, environmental education, healthcare topics for ESL adults, corrections education, teacher education, health education, and ombudsman training. She has served as the advisor for two collegiate groups: Gamma Beta Phi (national honors/service organization) and the National Society for Collegiate Scholars (honors/service/leadership organization for freshman and sophomore students). Rhonda is active in professional organizations at the regional and national levels.
