About the Book

This title is only available as a loose-leaf version with Pearson eText. The market-leading education textbook on learning theories, Human Learning looks at a broad range of theoretical perspectives, including behaviorist, social cognitive, cognitive, constructivist, contextual, and developmental theories. It describes associationistic processes, such as classical and operant conditioning, as well as more complex and distinctly human processes such as metacognition, self-regulated learning, and critical thinking. Using a many concrete examples and specific classroom applications, plus a lucid, conversational writing style that truly speaks to students, the author engages students from the start, and makes the concepts, principles, and theories related to human learning and cognition meaningful. The new Seventh Edition features a condensed format, which ideally accommodates typical semester-long courses, coverage of a variety of new topics that have emerged in recent research, and significant updates to include such information as technological innovations in instruction and the neurological underpinnings of learning and behavior. 0134040996 / 9780134040998 Human Learning, Pearson eText with Loose-Leaf Version -- Access Card Package Package consists of: 013357928X / 9780133579284 Human Learning, Loose-Leaf Version 013397247X / 9780133972474 Human Learning, Pearson eText -- Access Card

About the Author :
Jeanne Ellis Ormrod holds a B.A. degree in psychology from Brown University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in educational psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. For many years she was a faculty member at the University of Northern Colorado, where she taught courses in learning and cognition, educational psychology, measurement, and research methods; she is currently Professor Emerita of Psychological Sciences at UNC. Dr. Ormrod has published numerous research articles but is probably best known for this book and several other textbooks: Educational Psychology: Developing Learners (8th ed., 2014); Essentials of Educational Psychology (4th ed., 2015); Our Minds, Our Memories: Enhancing Thinking and Learning at All Ages (2011); Child Development and Education (with Teresa McDevitt; 5th ed., 2013); and Practical Research: Planning and Design (with Paul Leedy, 11th ed., 2016).

Review :
From reviews of the text: "What particularly distinguishes the Ormrod textbook from other textbooks of this kind is its writing style ... it is highly engaging. Dr. Ormrod speaks directly to her readers and shares engaging stories and examples, often from her own life and of a personal nature. This sharing makes the content come alive for readers and engages them. Readers feel as if Dr. Ormrod is having a personal conversation with them, never "talking down to them." - Shawn M. Glynn, University of Georgia "This textbook is extremely useful and valuable for college instructors, faculty, and graduate students (teachers and students) in educational programs .... [It has a] great emphasis on using the lens of theoretical pedagogies and theories to explain how educational psychology applies in our real world and instructional practice.... The activities and examples are amazingly engaging for learners to build connection with their authentic environments." - Yashu Yang, University of Nebraska - Lincoln "I find the writing very clear and quite refreshing. The key strengths [are] the comprehensiveness and scope of the content, discussion of recent research and theories, personal introductions to every chapter, great attention to detail and a summary at the end of each chapter." - Anandi Nagarajan, Rutgers University & Rider University
