About the Author :
George Syme Barrie Ontario George is the principle author of the first five editions of Accounting 1 and also of Prentice Hall Accounting. He has worked as an accountant with Clarkson Gordon and as an entrepreneur. He is now retired after 29 years in education, including 10 years with the Ontario Ministry of Education and 19 years as a teacher of mathematics and science, as well as business studies. George holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Chartered Accountant. In 1982 he received the Hilmer award from the Ontario Business Educators Association for his significant contribution to business education. Tim Ireland Head of Business Studies Eric Hamber Secondary School Vancouver Tim is the co-author, with George Syme, of Prentice Hall Accounting and Accounting 1, 5th Edition. He has been teaching accounting and business studies for over 20 years and is now the head of Business Studies at Eric Hamber Secondary School. Prior to that time he worked as a business analyst for Dun and Bradstreet. During his teaching career Tim has also authored four editions of the School Accounting Modules (The Witness Fitness Centre), published by the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada (CGA). Further, Tim has worked on curriculum implementation projects with the British Columbia Ministry of Education and the Vancouver School Board. And he has long been an active member of the British Columbia Business Educators Association (BCBEA). In 2000 Tim received the BCBEA's top award, the Sheila E Cameron Award. Tim holds a diploma in Investment and Finance and a degree in Business and Physical Education. In 1980 he received an award as the top business graduate of the University of British Columbia teacher training program.
