About the Author :
Since 2014, he is a Principal Scientist & ICAR-National Fellow working at ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, India. He has acquired advance training in Molecular Virology from University of Minnesota, USA (2005) and Division of Virology, University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (2013). He did his Post-doctoral research (2002) at University of Minnesota, Saint Paul, USA. Due to his significant contributions in the field of animal virology he has been recognized with several prestigious National, State and Academy awards and honours including ICAR-Jawaharlal Nehru Award. He is also Fellow of Indian Virological Society and member study group on Picobirnaviridae and Birnaviridae viruses of International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). He is Member-Managing Committee World Society of Virology. He has supervised 3Ph.D. and 17M.V.Sc. students. Has authored 5 books, 25 book chapters, and published 185 scientific research and review articles in reputed journals. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Immunology Immunopathology and also edited special issues of Springer’s journal “VirusDisease”, Bentham’s journal, “The Open Virology Journal”, and “Journal of Current Drug Metabolism” on emerging thematic areas. Dr. Debmalya Barh is currently a Visiting Full Professor (Titular, Grade-E) in Bioinformatics and Precision Health at the Department of Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution, ICB, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil and honorary scientist of the Institute of Integrative Omics and Applied Biotechnology (IIOAB), India. With over 20 years of experience, he has led academic, healthcare, molecular diagnostic, and bioinformatics industry endeavors. He works with more than 400 scientists from 100+ top ranked organizations across 40+ countries and has 220+ publications and a branded editor for 10+ cutting-edge omics related reference books. He is an expert in in precision/personalized health and integrative omics-based biomarker and target discovery in infectious and complex lifestyle diseases. Dr. Vasco Azevedo is a full professor at the Department of Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution, Institute of Biological Sciences, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is a CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico) researcher 1A, member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Commander of the Order of Scientific Merit of the MCTI of the genetics advisory committee and the public policy working group on biotechnology and genetic resources of COBRG/CNPq, coordinator of the Associated International Laboratory Bactinfl from INRAE and UFMG, and vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. He holds a degree in veterinary medicine from the School of Veterinary Medicine of the Federal University of Bahia (1986), a master's degree (1989), a doctorate (1993) in the genetics of microorganisms from the Institut National Agronomique Paris Grignon, and a doctorate in bioinformatics from UFMG (2017). He did his postdoctorate work with the Department of Microbiology, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, United States (1994). He was a professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo (2004). He is an expert in genetics and bioinformatics and his work mainly focuses on genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, vaccine development, diagnostics, and the development of next generation probiotics. He has more than 600 scientific publications, 14 books, and 60 chapters as well as 12 patents. Dr. S. M. Paul Khurana (new editor with this edition) is the Director of Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University, is the former Vice Chancellor of Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, and Retired Director of the Central Potato Research Institute. Dr. Khurana has a PHD (1968) and MSc (1965) from University of Gorakhpur. He spent two years doing post-doctoral work on Advanced Plant Virology at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan. He also worked at University of Minnesota, St. Paul (USA) on Immunodiagnostics (bio-technology) during a sabbatical of one year from 1987-88. He established a school of plant virology at CPRI, Shimla and has trained very large number of workers and students from the country and abroad. Dr. Khurana has published over 130 original research papers in journals of repute/high impact and he has also authored more than 75 reviews/book chapters. His research career achievements include the standardization and use of enzyme linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA) and immuno sorbent electron microscopy (ISEM) for detection of potato viruses, development of simple techniques for screening of resistance to potato viruses, apart from pioneering work in detection of plant diseases; associated with selection/release of eight potato varieties including the first ever two processing varieties in India.
