About the Book

A sci-fi thrill ride--incredible action, inventive world-building, deadly humor, and more--for fans of movie classics such as Blade Runner and Mad Max! This is the companion to Invisible Sun and Black Hole Sun, which Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, called "imaginative and action-packed."

Characters return, new characters are introduced, and the action never stops. Readers embraced the first two books in acclaimed author David Macinnis Gill's trilogy about Durango, Mimi (his nano-implant with a biting wit), and Vienne (his second-in-command), calling the books non-put-downable, thrilling, funny, and totally satisfying. A surefire bet for fans of dystopian sci-fi, from The Hunger Games to Battlestar Galactica. Cinematic action, rapid-fire dialogue, a futuristic setting on a terraformed Mars, and tragic romance--Shadow on the Sun is an unstoppable adrenaline rush!

  • High-Stakes Action: Follow super soldier Durango as he fights to survive against the corrupt government that created him, led by his own father.
  • Cyberpunk Tech: With Mimi, a snarky AI hardwired into his brain stem, Durango is never truly alone--or out of witty comebacks in this high-tech adventure.
  • Tragic Romance: Durango is a fugitive on the run, desperate to reunite with Vienne, the fierce warrior who holds his heart, but the forces trying to tear them apart are relentless.
  • Dystopian World-Building: Explore a gritty, terraformed Mars, from the deserted capital of Christchurch to the dangerous mines of Hell's Cross, in a fight for the future of the planet.

"Black Hole Sun grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go until the last page. In the best tradition of Heinlein and Firefly, Black Hole Sun is for readers who like their books fast-paced, intense, and relentless. Buy it, read it, pass it on!" - Laurie Halse Anderson, author of Speak and Chains

"Science-fiction fans will cheer Durango on in his exploits and enjoy the twists in the novel's satisfying conclusion." - School Library Journal (starred review)

"Fast-paced, compulsively readable, and outright funny." - The Horn Book

"Action, adventure, sci-fi, and horror buffs will all find this an almost perfect mix of all of the genres." - Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

Prause for Invisible Sun: "Will leave readers eager for the next volume." - Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA)

"Swift read . . .Durango's clever banter with his interior sidekick--the acerbic Mimi, his former chief who has been installed in his brain as an artificial intelligence system--is a highlight, employing the witty, realistic thoughts and retorts of a teen boy. . . . .The tense cliffhanger ending, with a cute Star Wars reference, will leave readers poised for more." - Booklist

Praise for Black Hole Sun: School Library Journal Best Book "Rockets readers to new frontiers . . . action-packed." - Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games
