About the Book

'This is the best book I’ve read this year, hands down' Conn Iggulden

As Hun hordes and Germanic tribes maraud through Imperial lands, two legendary men – Attila the Hun and the “Last of the Romans” General Flavius Aetius find their fortunes entangled with the chaos.

Flavius Aetius, a noble Roman son, is an outsider in a savage land. He has been banished, given as hostage to the barbaric Huns and sent to the edge of the world.

What the Huns do not know, however, is that his father and mother have been murdered in a coup. He is an orphan, with no value at all. His life hangs on a lie.

In this new harsh world, he manages to find one grudging ally, a young boy named Attila.

A brotherhood is formed. One that, the shamans foretell, will shatter the world.

'The Eagle and the Wolf is historical fiction at its most epic' Matthew Harffy, author of the Bernicia Chronicles.

'Doherty combines real history with vivid imagination in a way few can rival' Anthony Riches, author of the Empire series.

'Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to read on' Alex Gough, author of the Mark Antony series and the Outcasts of Rome series.

'A beautifully crafted historical fiction novel' Peter Gibbons, author of the Viking Blood and Blade trilogy

Review :
'Loved it. The end of empire deserves this sort of telling. I kept finding myself reading a few chapters more … This is the best book I’ve read this year, hands down' Conn Iggulden 'Doherty combines real history with vivid imagination in a way few can rival. This story of the legendary Atilla challenges us all to reconsider what we thought we knew about one of history's misrepresented heroic leaders' – Anthony Riches 'Gordon Doherty pens a powerful and compelling tale of the clash of civilizations during the Roman Empire's crumbling and bloody collapse. Overflowing with intrigue, adventure, love, betrayal, and bravery, The Eagle and the Wolf is historical fiction at its most epic and promises to be the start of a fantastic saga' Matthew Harffy 'The Eagle and Wolf is a gripping read, propulsive and crackling with energy. I could not put it down! Attila and Aetius gallop off the page shooting arrows and leading furious warriors into battle in a beautifully crafted historical fiction novel. Gordon Doherty expertly captures the sweeping landscape and epic story in a masterful epic' Peter Gibbons 'Two great men fight together against the forces of chaos that threaten to hasten the end of the dying Roman empire. Flavius Aetius, the last great Roman, and Atilla the Hun, the Scourge of God, form an unlikely friendship as they learn about each other’s cultures. This is one of the greatest stories of the Roman Empire, and Doherty tells it with his usual brilliance. The descriptions of the decline of the Empire are brilliant and saddening, and the story zips along with page-turning pace. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to read on.' Alex Gough PRAISE FOR GORDON DOHERTY: 'Doherty once again proves himself a master of Roman fiction' – Peter Gibons 'A master of his craft' – Griff Hosker 'A page-turning adventure' – Damion Hunter
