About the Book

This is the latest addition to the Collins' best-selling Learn to Paint series, by popular artist Hazel Soan, focusing on one of the most important aspects of painting – how to portray light, atmosphere and mood in watercolour paintings. All painters want to know how to portray light successfully to create dramatic effects, and this book will look at a number of ways in which this can be achieved. The book shows specific watercolour techniques to create highlights, use colour to determine mood and atmosphere and how to explore the relationship between light and tone. Hazel Soan is a very popular teacher and in this book she provides invaluable guidelines for beginners. With clear instructions, plenty of helpful llustrations and several step-by-step demonstration paintings, the book covers everything the beginner needs to know to paint successful light-filled watercolours.

Review :
`Every page is a delight and filled with ideas, instruction and information.’ Artists’ Coice Book Club `As ever, Hazel’s text is easy to follow, and illustrated with a wide range of studies and paintings for inspiration. This book will help readers to see light through an artist’s eye, and thereby allow them to create paintings with a greater sense of life and energy.’ Leisure Painter `An excellent little guide that packs in more than many much bigger books,’ The Artist
