He served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Vietnam and Nepal, gaining a Ph.D. in General Linguistics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. For 24 years h held a senior position as a computer programmer in the Computer Centre of University College London. During that time his video course on Fortran has been used to teach tens of thousands of students. Besides his thesaurus of the Bible, he has written a number of books and articles on computing.
