About the Book

Serving the Call is a comprehensive and Spirit-led training manual for new members of church governance bodies. Designed to support congregations, boards, and judicatory leaders, this 92-page workbook provides the practical foundation and spiritual grounding necessary to lead with faith, clarity, and integrity. Through structured chapters, reflection prompts, and integrated webinar resources, this guide helps churches move beyond confusion and into alignment with God's call. Topics include the spiritual nature of governance, roles and responsibilities, aligning mission with resources, bylaws and structure, financial oversight, communication, and discernment-based decision-making. Whether used as part of a formal onboarding process or as a group study tool, Serving the Call equips governance leaders to understand their sacred responsibility and faithfully steward the resources and energy entrusted to them. The content is drawn from years of hands-on experience with congregations of all sizes, offering real-world insight and tested tools. Created by church leadership consultant and former judicatory executive Keith Clark-Hoyos, this manual is designed for easy use in an eight-week training cohort, a weekend retreat, or ongoing leadership development. It pairs especially well with Embracing Our Call, which offers a deeper theological and practical exploration of governance as spiritual practice. Whether your board is just forming, navigating a season of transition, or ready to deepen its leadership capacity, Serving the Call is your companion on the path to faithful governance.

About the Author :
Keith Clark-Hoyos is a nationally respected church leadership consultant, financial strategist, and spiritual guide with over two decades of experience empowering congregations to align their ministry with faithful governance. As the founder of Church Training Center and Church Procedures Audit, Keith works with churches, boards, and judicatory bodies to strengthen their leadership structures, clarify financial practices, and equip governing body members with tools rooted in both practical wisdom and spiritual integrity. A former judicatory executive and Commissioned Minister for Finance, Administration, and Communication in the United Church of Christ, Keith now serves broadly across denominations and faith-based organizations. He brings a rare combination of nonprofit financial expertise, governance training, and Spirit-led discernment to his work, ensuring that each resource he creates is grounded in real-world application and a deep commitment to the sacred purpose of church leadership. Keith is the author of multiple resources designed to equip ministry leaders, including Embracing Our Call, Called Together, and The Ministry of Money. He also facilitates leadership cohorts, trains finance committees, and leads webinars on topics ranging from fraud prevention to mission-based budgeting. Through the Effective Church Leadership Community, he continues to support boards and congregations seeking to serve God's call with clarity, compassion, and conviction. In Serving the Call, Keith offers a practical, approachable, and spiritually grounded manual for those stepping into governance roles. Whether new to leadership or seeking renewal, readers will find a trusted guide who understands the complexity, sacredness, and opportunity that comes with the call to serve.
