About the Book

Sergeant Darling's platoon was on a rescue mission in Afghanistan when they were hit. They had just stepped out of their vehicles when a missile strike blew up their Humvees, all of them. They ran for cover, but the only cover was dilapidated buildings already made rubble from the war. Josh Darling, known to everyone as JD, could hear the moans coming from men who had been hit in the first Humvee. He crawled through the smoke in that direction. Just as he reached the first injured man, he heard the distinct sound of mortar coming in, he heard the explosion, saw the flash as the bomb hit - then nothing. Opening his eyes in the hospital without a clue as to who he was or how he got there was a very frightening experience. He didn't even know his name, where he lived or anything about himself as a person. The only thing he knew was that he was in a hospital and apparently married, if the ring on his finger was any indication. Three months later, he still didn't know anything. However, he did learn to walk all over again, learn to feed himself, to dress himself, all the simple things he could not remember how to do and had to learn as if he were a child. But those came easy enough to achieve. His memory, however, of who he was and his life before opening his eyes in that hospital room, was harder to come to terms with. Harder still was the fact that he would never recover, never remember his life of who he was before. He would never be the person he once was, whether that was good or bad, he didn't know. All he knew was now. All he knew was who they told him he was, Sergeant Josh Darling of the US Army. Nothing more. Sheree Darling was told her husband was alive but had sustained injuries to his head. A piece of shrapnel went through his helmet and lodged in his temporal lobe, damaging his hippocampus, which is his long-term memory. She didn't truly understand what they were telling her. All she heard was he was alive. But after a while, it dawned on her as to what they were saying. Josh no longer had any memories of who she was, who they were. He didn't know that they were married. He didn't remember that he had a wife and a four-year-old daughter waiting for him at home. And he never would. She cried, begged and pleaded with God for two years after she found out about Josh's injury. Then one day, she stopped begging and pleading and began praying and trusting. Then early one morning while sitting on the steps of their home, drinking a cup of coffee, she felt the peace of the Lord come over her and she heard the promise stirring in her mind. I will restore all things. With God's Promise firmly set in her heart, she suddenly she knew what she had to do.
