About the Book

Avocado Toast at the End of the World is a darkly tender, often funny, and ultimately hopeful story set in a near-future world unraveling at the seams-environmentally, socially, and spiritually. At its center is Callie, a twenty-nine-year-old woman clinging to routine and overpriced avocado toast as the outside world crumbles under ash clouds, blackouts, and the slow erosion of meaning. But when a mysterious message appears on a café chalkboard-"The end isn't what you think"-Callie finds herself drawn into an underground network known as The Breadcrumbs: a quiet resistance movement built not on rebellion or violence, but on community, gardens, chalk messages, and radical hope. As the world continues to decay around them, The Breadcrumbs reject survivalism's paranoia in favor of collective care, mutual aid, and storytelling. Rooftops become gardens. Tunnels become libraries. Cafés become hubs of communication. And through it all, Callie begins to reconnect-with others, with herself, and with a future she'd long stopped believing in. Alongside characters like Miriam the organizer, Theo the poet-barista, R.K. the rooftop farmer, and Casper, her quiet, fiercely resilient companion, Callie learns that preparing for the end isn't about escape-it's about choosing how to stay, and who to stay with. The novel explores millennial burnout, climate anxiety, love in unexpected places, and the power of small rituals to anchor us in the face of collapse. It's a book about finding purpose after disillusionment, about reimagining community when systems fail, and about discovering that even in a dying world, there can still be brunch, laughter, and blooming lemon trees. It doesn't offer a roadmap out of the apocalypse-but it offers something far more valuable: a gentle reminder that maybe the world we build next can be stranger, softer, and more human than the one we lost.
